PABLO CARREÑO-BUSTA SECURES SECOND WILD CARD FOR THE MAIN DRAW
2017 champion has the best results in the tournament history
Tournament director João Zilhão announced that the second wild card for the main draw of the Millennium Estoril Open, that starts in two weeks, is for the Spaniard Pablo Carreño-Busta. The Millennium Estoril Open has been a talisman for him, who has always presented quality results at the Clube de Ténis do Estoril.
Pablo Carreño-Busta has been semifinalist in the inaugural edition, in 2015, and last year, finalist in 2016 and champion in 2017. His triumph two years ago bosted him into the best season ever, debuting a month later in the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament, at Roland Garros, and improving that record in September, reaching the US Open semi-finals. He finished the year with a passage through the top 10 and the participation in the end of the season summit that joined the best of the ATP Tour in London (Nitto ATP Finals).
This year, Carreño-Busta started the season with a presence in the quarter-finals of Auckland (had a match point to reach the semi-finals) and succumbed in a dramatic duel of the fourth round of the Australian Open, against Kei Nishikori, in which was leading by two sets to neal and by 8/5 in the match tie-break of the last set, before losing concentration in a refereeing dispute. He returned to action on the South American tour, but gave up in the second round of the Cordoba tournament with shoulder problems.
