João Domingues: "It's a remarkable day in my career"
At the conference room, the third best portuguese player said he was happy to reach Millennium Estoril Open quarter-finals, his career's greatest achievement.
"It's remarkable day in my career. Two years ago I was really close to the quarter-finals", said Domingues, after his victory against John Millman, at the same time feeling sorry for the way things went. "It wasn't how I wished it would be. I only realized he wasn't at his best during the second set, because he wasn't moving the same way has he was in the first. In the end of the match, he told me he couldn't do it anymore. It all happened when he went for a smash and landed with his support leg immediately feeling something was wrong", explained João Domingues, admitting he felt disturbed by his opponent limitation.
Now in the quarter-finals, where he will be facing first seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, the 25-year-old portuguese doesn't want to think further than the next match. "My thought is always match after match. As I said before, I always have my chances before any opponent, because I really believe in myself, but I prefer to go step by step", said the current world number 214.
Could this be the greatest feat of João Domingues's career, take into account his challenger title in Mestre, Italy? "To be in the quarter-finals coming all the way up from the qualifying is a feeling different from any other".
