Cuevas starts qualifying with a win

The best ranked player in the qualifying closed the first day of the Millennium Estoril Open with a win. Pablo Cuevas is in the second round just like Joao Domingues, the only Portuguese that survived from this day.

And it comes to the end the first day of 5 th edition Millennium Estoril Open. From the qualifying round the main top seeds go through to the second round. Portuguese João Domingues upset the top seed number 3 Elias Ymer.

The sun shined for the first winner of the day at Estádio Millennium. Italian
Simone Bolelli defeated the seed number 7, Egor Gerasimov, in a tie-break
decision, in straight sets 6-2, 7-6 (7/0).

Daniel Evans, the second seed, went through after winning in front of Italian
Lorenzo Giustino in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, and he will meet spanish Alejandro
Davidovich Fokina, who beat the 6 th seed Bjorn Fratangelo.

The local hero, Gastão Elias, took too much time to find his best tennis at this first
round and lost, in a second set tie-break, against australian Alexei Popyrin, 4 th top seed, 7-5, 7-6 (7/5).

Italian Fillippo Baldi upset the 5 th top seed, Jozef Kovalik, after came back from a
set behind and won 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. In the next round, he will meet the only
Portuguese survived from this first day, João Domingues, after a good win over 3rd top seed Elias Ymer, 6-3, 7-6 (7/3).

The last but not the least match of the day saw the top seed Pablo Cuevas
celebrating a win. The uruguayan went through after uspset the german Daniel
Brands, 6-1, 7-6 (7/4).
